About Us
Introduction
The goal of College of Medicine is to train excellent, humane and competent doctors, nurses,social workers and social service workers to provide holistic patient care. Besides, we have been endeavoring to develop academic research to cultivate outstanding biomedical researchers. Our institution consists of seven units, which are School of Medicine, School of Nursing, School of Medical Sociology and Social Work, Institute of Medicine, Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Institute of microbiology and immunology and Research on Geriatrics and Gerontology.
Features
In the area of teaching, we aim to develop our students' self-learning and independent thinking skills in accordance with our explicit educational philosophy of attempting to cultivate leaders. We educate our students to be the future medical professionals with a sound fundamental knowledge and clinical skills, strong humanistic concerns and good communication abilities, and to be capable of providing patient-centered holistic care.
In the area of research, we have also been training excellent biomedical researchers who make very important contributions to the country. We have achieved outstanding accomplishments in the following areas:
1. Basic Science Research: To discover applications of Chinese herbs and natural products in cancer and autoimmune diseases, and to explore their molecular mechanisms.
2. Clinical Medicine Research: To explore the correlations of clinical manifestations and markers of early cancers, and to analyze and identify the genes responsible for cancer metastasis, e.g. lung cancer.
3. Medical Education Research: To develop important issues on medical education, such as geriatric cares, health care services,medical ethics, medical benefits and services.
Future Development
1. To cultivate excellent andmedicalprofessionals:
We will continue the medical curriculum reform in an innovative, longitudinal and integrating way in pursuit of excellence of medical education. We expect our students possess core competencies and will become a humane physician with a sound fundamental knowledge and clinical skills, strong humanistic and ethical concerns, and also a good communicator capable of implementing patient-centered holistic medical care.
2. To develop medical education research teams:
We will recruit faculty interested in medical education in order to develop a medical education research team. Our research interests will cover different areas including pedagogy, curriculum design, delivering of effective teaching, learning methods and assessments, and Interdisciplinary research collaboration.
3.To develop outstanding research fields:
One of our strengths in research is to have the abundant resources from the medical university and our affiliated hospital. We will continue recruiting outstanding researchers, strengthening industry-university collaboration, and obtaining more resources to support better and higher research accomplishments.
4. To reinforce international academic activities:
We have established sister schools with many world-famous universities, such as University of Alabama at Birmingham, University of Minnesota, Tokyo Medical University and Medical University of Vienna. We will continue to promote the student’s exchange program and to develop more collaboration among faculty with sister schools.
5.Faculty development:
Faculty is the key for success of medical education. We will focus on providing opportunities for life-long learning on specific areas related to the policy and trends of medical education,and will be responsible for providing various training programs, such as medical humanities, social sciences, medical professionalism and interdisciplinary collaboration.
